Greetings!

Welcome to Taiwo’s RandomReads

Why RandomReads?

So, if you did not get the chance to read over my personal bio, I am a former English teacher and I stepped out of my last full time teaching job in October 2019. Ironically, I began teaching at the same institution the same time last year, October 2018. I enjoyed my time there for the most part, but the 2nd year was extremely stressful for multiple reasons, however, this blog is not to explore that experience. When I was hired for the position, the former teacher had left two shelves full of books, and decided not to return for them, so by default they were endowed to me. Initially, my plan was to sell them all when I found the time and put the investment in my savings account (FYI the monopoly on selling used books in ridiculous). After I brought the books home, I took some time to look through them all and see what the price for them on the market were. Not to my surprise the monetary return would be low, so I decided to read all the books before I sell them. There are probably over 30 books in all and they range from a wide variety of genres and time periods. I look forward to reading them all and giving my opinion on the reading here on my blog. I hope you enjoy my reviews and critiques. This is my first time keeping a blog and seriously critiquing a novel (even as an English major, I was never strong at literary critiques). Here is a list that shows some of the books I will read!

  • No Disrespect – Sistah Souljah
  • The Mammary Plays – Paula Vogel
  • Three Great Plays (The Emperor Jones, Anna Christie, The Hairy Ape – Eugene O’Neill
  • Buried Child – Sam Shepard

“The Mammary Plays” by Paula Vogel

The first piece I completed reading was the titled “The Mammary Plays” by Paula Vogel, which is double play book consisting of the two plays ” How I learned to Drive” and “The Mineola Twins”.
